Question : Problem: DLINK DWL-G630 not working in HP Pavilion ze4800 - Error ID (10)
Hi,
I have the above wireless pcmcia card which works fine on my other laptops but not the ze4800. I bought the laptop preinstalled with windows xp, I upgraded to SP2 and it is fully up to date.
When I insert the card into the laptop nothing happens, no lights or add hardware wizard. I have entered the Computer Management section in Administrative Tools - in Event Viewer, System I have the following Error every time I insert the card:
The description for Event ID ( 10 ) in Source ( Pcmcia ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: \Device\Pcmcia0.
Additional info from this screen:

Error ID: 10
I have the most up to date drivers from DLink but when I install the software I am not even prompted to insall the drivers. When trying to manually install the drivers I get the message that the driver I select does not match my hardware (???).
I hope someone can help here, I have been troubled by this for some time now.
Many thanks
Keith.

I wouldn't trust the device manager to give the absolute truth :) I think I'd try to find some other suitable PC-Card to try in the slot first. Then I'd try another O/S (like running the machine off a live CD like Knoppix). If no go in either of these trials, it could very well be a hardware issue. Otherwise - software.
