Question : Problem: Problem With HP Scanner ScanJet 4300 Driver and Windows XP

Windows XP reconized the Scanner and installed the basic WIA Driver. After the software was installed
from the HP CD,windows do not reconize the scanner.IT install the HP drivers every time, even after uninstalling the software and removing the scanner fron the Device Manager. It seems like this HP driver is not supported by Windows XP.Where can I find this drivers to delete it? It's name? How can I force Windows to use the WIA drivers again ? Is there any other solution? Thank
You

You could still try the update. I believe all the update does is load the correct drivers for XP.  As long as the non-XP HP software loaded, you've gotten past the hard part.

The page for the download says this:

Customers that have products that are not supported with the built-in WIA driver on the Windows XP operating system, or would prefer the full featured HP Software solution for Windows XP, may follow the steps listed here:

Disconnect the scanner from the PC if it is connected.
Download and install the latest version of the HP Scanning Software for the scanner for Windows 2000 Pro.
Download and install the HP ScanJet scanner update for Windows XP... Reconnect the scanner to the PC and let it plug and play.

As long as your software is Windows 2000 compatible, loading the XP update should work.  (According to what the update page says above.)  But if you have tried that and it didn't work, or don't want to try that, you can load the WIA driver from Control Panel.

I did this for my 2100c scanner, but backwards.  I had to load the Hewlett-Packard driver.  I was using the older software, but that doesn't seem to work with the WIA driver.

Use the Update Driver button in the scanner properties in Device Manager.  Select "Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)". Click Next.

Click on "Don't Search, I will select the driver to install." click Next.

There should be a list of available drivers, select the one that has (Microsoft) behind the name. In my case, I switched to the (Hewlett-Packard) driver and finally got my scanner recognized.
