Question : Problem: Epson Scanner: cannot uninstall in XP
|
|
I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX425 multi-function device. Scanner is not working. When I try to uninstall in Device Manager I get message: "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer".
This is a desktop: Windows XP with SP2 and latest patches. Scanner is USB connected directly to USB 2.0 port on PCI card. Have tried "show hidden devices", but no ghost entries. Have tried uninstall of Epson software, but device remains in device manager.
This computer has had chequered history with rebuild of XP after virus infection.
Any help greatly appreciated. Need to fix for client TODAY. Am happy to do regedits if that is what is required.

Remove the TWAIN data source: Look into the directory C:\Windows\Twain_32 (it maybe c:\winnt\twain_32 - depending on your operating system). There should be a .ds file for your scanner. Remove that file. Does the device still show up?
