Question : Problem: Allowing A PPTP VPN Through Company Router

Hi there,

I am trying to set up a simple VPN connection for a number of remote users who currently access a terminal services server via RDP.

I would like to provide a more secure method of providing an RDP connection, and would like to start with a simple PPTP connection. The server has a public IP address, and I have installed the RRAS component onto it.

I have tested the connection to the server using it's LAN address and the connection is OK and user permissions are sound. When I try to connect to the RRAS server using it's public address, i.e. out and back in through our router (a Draytek Vigor 2800), it seems to connect but then pauses on the 'Verifying Username and Password' dialogue.

I am then returned error 721 "The remote computer did not respond".

I think it may be a setting on our router - I have checked 'Enable PPTP VPN service' on the router, which I assume is unblocking the correct ports/protocol. I have also tried specifically allowing port 1732 in and out.

I am relatively new to all of this, so any help would be appreciated.
