Question : Problem: used wrong program to open file
|
|
I downloaded a Postscript file and guessed (bad move) what program to use to open it when I was asked to choose one. I chose Acrobat Reader and now whenever I try to download any Postscript file my computer automatically tries to open it with Adobe Reader and promptly gives me a message saying that this won't work. How do I undo this? . This is probably an easy question, but it's not for me (yet). I've got Windows 98.

First and foremost, you need to get a postscript file viewer program like ghostscript to view them files.
Second, to undo the "open with" assignment you did earlier: Open windows explorer. Then select View->Folder Options, and then click on the "File Types" tab. Browse throuthe list until you find the file type for the postscript files you want. Select it and click the Remove button.
When you try to open that file type again you will be asked again to choose a program to open the file with. Make sure you have the right program to open the file before permanently making this assignment again. If you just want to try opening the file with something make sure the "Always use this program to open this file" checkbox is unchecked.
