Question : Problem: Cannot read an old hard disk in a new PC

A friend of mine has a very old PC, running IBM PC-DOS 3.30, which has a (very old) hard disk of about 40 MB. Now he wants to transfer all the data from the old PC to a new one he bought! I took off the old hard disk from the old PC and I put it as a secondary master on the new PC but Windows didn't understood that the disk had data on it – in fact they asked to format the disk!!! I tried to boot from a Windows 98 start-up diskette (in the new PC - after I swapped the primary and secondary disks) but the MS-DOS found no drives!!! After I returned the old hard disk at the old PC I saw (after the boot) that the system uses a utility(?) that displayed the following (more or less):
"SEAGATE DISK, Disk Manager 4.03, Ontrack…".
So, what can I do to have the transfer done?

Thanks
