Question : Problem: Reading files created in Legato Networker 2.0

We have several 8mm data tapes that were created with EMC/Legato Networker version 2.0.  We can read the tapes and retrieve the backup file, however we do not have a copy of the Networker software to catalog & retrieve the files contained within the backup file.  We need to find a software utility or a data conversion vendor that can work with the backup files.  Any help here is appreciated.

Also, we've found through Google that Sun rebrands EMC/Legato Networker as Solstice Backup on their Solaris OS, if that's of any help.

Thanks,

Answer : Problem: Reading files created in Legato Networker 2.0

What exactly do you want to accomplish?

What do you mean by "can read the tapes and retrieve the backup"?
Does this mean you can retrieve files and/or savesets or just raw data
off the tapes?

To get the directory contents off your tapes you will need EMC's Legato
Networker (or some OEM product as Sun's Solstice Backup).

If you have Solaris Server (2.6, 7 or 8) you may already have it one
one of the CDs.
If you install the software (you will have to install the "server", "drivers"
and "client" on a machine with the tape drive(s) attached to it), you
can use all it's features for 40 days without a license.

If you don't have CDs, you can download the software from EMC's site
at http://softwareforms.emc.com/resources/downloads/ (as product
select "Networker").
