Question : Problem: Backing up Exchange
I use Computer Associates Brightstor 11.1 for backup, and I have the Exchange agent. Recently my Exchange database backup started failing every night with the error "Read/Write Error in Named Pipes." I have tried to research this on the web, and have taken every suggestion I have found. I have run chkdsk on the hard drive, eseutil /p and eseutil/d, isinteg, and checked my antivirus settings. I am out of ideas but I still can't back up Exchange! I'll give as many points as I can to anyone who can solve this for me!

Wow, that's bad. It looks like they have a forum, though: http://forums.ca.com When you install Exchange on a server, it changes the version of NTBackup so that it can do an online backup of Exchange. You could use NTBackup on the Exchange server to do an IS backup, and then include that in your main backup. It won't do brick-level backups, but most people think they're a bad idea anyway.
