Question : Problem: Extend array within windows 2000
|
|
i have a windows 2000server with 3 x 36.4gb drives, they are all in Raid 5 and showing as 1 logical drive however i only have 2 gb left of storage space,
i want to put 2 more 36.4gb drives in the array and extend the current drive system, i put one of the disks in and rebooted my server
when i went into the compaq system tools\compaq array configuration utility it flashes up un assigned physical drives , it gives me the option of extend so i chose next, then it said the it may not be supported within windows 2000.
my question is, How can i extend this to show the 5 disks as one logical drive?
this is queit urgent as i have over 20gb of data thats needs to go this server asap
thanks

Expansion is dangerous with dynamic disks unless you have the very latest firmware, that's what the warning means:

There should be no need to reboot your server after expanding the array, just use the extra space as another logical array and then use disk manager to make a new drive under windows. You can make a volume set with it if you want but normally just have it as another drive.
