Question : Problem: Mac crashed. Need to move iPod songs to new iTunes on new PC or new Mac.

2GB iPod (previously sync'd with iBook G4) with 200 songs
iBook G4 (crashed)
Functional Windows PC
Functional Mac G4

I have a 2GB iPod with about 200 *.m4p songs on it. They were purchased and sync'd through iTunes on my iBook G4. They are not mp3 files. My iBook G4 has crashed and I want to install iTunes on my Windows PC or Mac G4 and sync the iPod with a new copy of iTunes.

Exactly how do I do this without repurchasing all the songs?

Thanks,
Dan

Answer : Problem: Mac crashed. Need to move iPod songs to new iTunes on new PC or new Mac.

  1. I installed iTunes on a PC.
  2. I authorized iTunes (luckily it was the 4th out of 5 times they allow).
  3. When I plugged in the iPod, iTunes recognized that this iPod was previously sync'd with another computer, popped up a warning and gave me 2 options:
a. erase the iPod and sync it with the PC
b. transfer all of my purchased music to iTunes on the PC.

      4.   I chose "b" and all is good.

Now a word of warning... there was a check box on the a/b choice window that said "Do not show this window again" or something like that. If that box had been checked in the past, I have read that iTunes will just automatically sync to the new PC and wipe the old data. I was lucky because iTunes had never been installed on this PC before.
