Question : Problem: memory causes amber light to go on but everything still works after testing.

Hello,

I'm running an IBM xseries 345 with 3GB of ram.
2x512 ibm
2x1gb PC2100 266MHz DDR ECC REGISTERED
True PC2100 266MHz (Compatible with PC1600 Servers)
Backward compatible with PC1600 Servers
184 Pin, Gold Leads
2.50V, 7.5 ns
CAS LATENCY, (CL 2.5)
ECC (Error Correction), REGISTERED Memory
128x72 Low Density Chips, Major Brand Name

Anyway, (not surpising)... but the dell memory is causing the IBM amber light to come on.  We've tested it by taking it out and it is in fact the memory that is causing this light.  However. when we run memtester and diagnostics on the memory and it comes back successfully tested ok and the server reads all of the memory.

So, the question is whether or not there is a fix to this to get the amber light off.  ie. running a program or updating something (I don't really know)

These modules are past the return date.  I got them on Ebay for a good price brand new, So, I might have to count this as a loss, get rid of them and buy more ram, even though they still work.  Or maybe go through dell as they do have a lifetime warranty.  Any help or suggestions on this would be great.  Obviously I'd like to simply get the IBM to like the ram and get the light off.

Answer : Problem: memory causes amber light to go on but everything still works after testing.

According to the service manual the only corrective action  to be taken is replacement of the ram module.
Check page 32 of the manual for intro to the Light Path Diagnostics.
