Question : Problem: DLink 500G ADSL Modem/Router

Greetings,
I just bought a D-Link 500G ADSL Modem/Router. After configuring my NIC with IP 10.1.1.100 (as shown in the manual) I cannot ping the router at the ip address 10.1.1.1. I tried also configuring my NIC to get its IP from DHCP in the router, but it fails every time and assigns a private ip address to the NIC. Both Ethernet leds on the modem and my NIC are on. And I tested two other NICs, but with no luck also. Please, advice!
