Question : Problem: Dell 2650 PERC 3/DI doesn't find new drives

I'm trying to add storage to my Dell 2650 PERC 3/DI.

System Bios is A21 (current)
Perc 3/di v is 2.8-1 6098 which isn't the most current build but close

I currently have 2 fujitsu 34 GB - Ultra320 SCSI in raid 1 for the OS (sbs2003R2)

I've just purchased 3 - 37 GB fusjitsu Ultra320 SCSI drives which I want to set up as Raid 5 for sql server data (not touching the os raid container)

When I go into Raid config tool I've tried to initialize the drives but the new drives are not recognized.  I tried installing one at a time, but no joy.

alrighty then,,

how about this... the hot swap drive holders for the 3 extra drive slots in my PE2650 are plastic, with no screw holes. I assumed (incorrectly) that they were simple press fit and slide in...comparing to the other 2 drives, which have metal trays and are screwed in place, it was obvious that the new drives were not seating  (about 3cm too short) and there was no connection to the system... bios wasn't recognizing them because they weren't attached to the machine. might as well have been sitting on my desk

fixed the trays so they seat properly and viola...I have a brand new raid 5 container
