Question : Problem: DVD Burner will not Burn To 8x Discs

System is Win2K with a Benq DVD + R Burner - This Burner worked fine with HP 1x/2.4x + R media until I ran out .  It refuses to work with either HP 4x + R disc media or HP + R discs marked as compatible with 1x/2.4x/4x/8x

Here is a recent error log

Answer : Problem: DVD Burner will not Burn To 8x Discs

OOOPS !! BenQ is a LOW-RATE DVD drive, and it is very quirky as to which DVD brand of disks it will work with.  It is entierly possible you will never get it to work at 8X, even if the disks are rated as such.  So you have 2 opts:

1.  Always burn a step below maximum -- I do this even on CDs, because reliability is more important than speed to me -- who cares about speed when you have to recover crucial data that you can't live without?

2.  Go to some site like meritline.com -- they sell zillions of different types of CD/DVD media.  They also have very informative charts as to WHICH MEDIA are compatible with WHICH DVD or CD devices.

Take some time studying their site.  You might mind the media doesn't work at 8X in the drive.  You might find it is supposed to.  So in that case, burn what you have at 4x, and call it quits.

Next time you can afford it, toss the BenQ and buy a SONY -- hey, for $89.00 you can buy the tope of the line, dual media, both-side 9 BG SONY DVD burner.  How could you ask for a better deal???  Sony is the best DVD !!
