Question : Problem: 5.1 surround sound in windows vista
I have a 5.1 sound card and speakers. I just intsalled vista on to my media center pc and the sound is really poor and not 5.1. In windows XP everything worked fine, and i have tested the speakers with another system. I updated the sound card drivers to WHCL vista drivers. However the sound is terrible, sound only comes from the front L and R speakers and theres too much treble and no bass. One strange thing is that the soundcard utility has a checkbox that says "switch center/bass" and when i check that i get really loud bass, like 10 times the volume of any other part of sound.
I'm pretty much out of ideas to fix it? Does anyone have some suggestions about how i can debug this?

I'd replace the card with something more common.
