Question : Problem: How to merge two routers with the same SSID
|
|
A while back I asked how to bridge a linksys wireless router to an existing network with a DHCP. It was answered here:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Networking_Hardware/Wireless/Access_Points/Q_23225449.html
So here is my question. The bridge is working on the Linksys allowing IP addresses from the business router in the office but I need more range. The Netgear business router has wireless (and provides all the IPs for the entire office) but it is has a different SSID name. However the subnet mass, IP etc originates from it which comes through the Linksys bridge. The Netgear wireless router is on the other end of the building and could provide the range I need where the Linksys router cannot reach. Right now I have to switch connections in Windows XP to the Netgear SSID to get better wireless signal & switch back when I move to the other location.
Can I get both routers to the same SSID? I do not know what will happen and my hope is that it will auto-switch if the signal drops to low...

To make moving between wirelless more seemless:
use different channels (1 and 6 for example) use the same encryption key keep differnt sids all networks must be set to automatic
for detailed example using 3 wireless routers (2 linksys, and 1 belkin) see the following website:

I hope this helps
