Question : Problem: Hot swap backup raid is not working

I have 3 sets of2 hard drives which I use for backup.  I use one set for a week, pull it out and use another set for a week.

My problem is that when I put a set in, the computer does assign it a drive letter.  I have to right click on My computer, go to manage, then Disk Management.  Then I have to fiddle with configuring the drive, usually have to format it, and then assign it a drive letter.  However, if I need to restore data, formatting the drive erases all the data.  I use Backup Exec 11 and I put the hard drives into a Granite Digital Storage Container which is connected to the Server by cables.  We used to be able to simply hot sway the backup sets each week, but now I cannot

Any suggestions?

Answer : Problem: Hot swap backup raid is not working

Hi,

next time when you want to swap the drives. Stop the backup exec services and then swap the drives. and start the backup exec services.

can you confirm if the drive letter assignment has always been a issue or is this occuring oflate. If you are seeing this now then the issue might be that the disk headers (0 sector) which has the partition information is getting corrupted. There might be some conflict which is causing the drive not being assigned the drive letter correctly.

the issue might be more with windows than backup exec
