Question : Problem: Dell Power Edge 6350 drive setup help
|
|
I've been given a Power Edge 6350.
I have no experiance with raid and i can't get the Perc bios to see the drives.
It has 3 x Compaq 16gb drives in it. when it boots it says there is 1 container so i controlled A went in the bios and it lists the 3 drives in 1 container as Raid 5.
further into the boot the AMERICAN MEGATRENDS bios comes up but i can't see or select any drives in this screen. after that it says there are not logical drives- But i can't see any to set in the bios.

You have two RAID controllers in your system. There is a PERC 2/Di (I think - maybe a 3/Di) on the motherboard that is connected to the internal drive cage. There is a second PCI RAID controller that (a PERC 2 or 2/DC perhaps?) that was probably connected to an external storage cabinet (such as Dell's PowerVault 200S, 210S or even 220S) but isn't connected to anything anymore.
So - if you want to build a straightforward server - use the inbuilt discs on the first RAID on-board controller and don't lose any sleep over the PCI RAID controller.
