Question : Problem: Would i benifit from using pc5300 memory as opposed to pc4200?
|
|
Crucial and intel claim that my Mobo supports pc5300 memory. I have 4gb of pc4200 which is running fine. Would my system bus speed increase if i was to run the pc5300 memory? Or is there any other benifits from running this memory in my system?
Reason i am asking is that the 4gb was a gift and i don't want to return it if i don't have to. I remember having an old pc that was running pc2700 but it slowed down to pc2100 because the Mobo would only run the memory at 2100. Does the 5150 have the capibility to run the pc5300 at maximum 667mhz or is it gointg to drop down to 533mhz anyway? Will this affect my system bus speed?

"... Would i benifit from using pc5300 memory as opposed to pc4200? " ==>
Short Answer: No.
Longer Answer: The specifications for the 5100 show clearly show it only supports memory bus speeds of 400MHz and 533Mhz. Although DDR667 would work, it would downclock to DDR533 speed and work EXACTLY the same as your current memory :-)
