Question : Problem: HP ScanJet 3200C  scanner problem

I am having problems with my HP ScanJet 3200C scanner.  I use Windows 98.  The scanner is connected with a parallel cable.  The scanner is routed through the printer or the printer through the scanner. This is my problem:

A few months ago, when I scanned, the scanner bed began showing a verticle yellow line.  It progressively got worse until the entire bed was yellow.  Then it scanned with multicolored lines.  It is making a noise when it scans.  My husband tried cleaning the mirrors and the glass with alcohol.  It still doesn't scan correctly. I can see the light as it passes when it scans.  It starts off white, then turns yellow.  Could the light be going bad and need replacing?  I uninstalled and reinstalled the scanner and the printer.  I tried some online support, downloading ScanJet 3200C Power Control Patch and a couple of other updates.  This didn't help either. I emailed HP a couple of days ago but got no response so far. I haven't called them due to the $2 a minute charge.  If I'm on the phone with them, as I have been with technicians with other companies, for 30 minutes or an hour, I could buy a new scanner.  Any suggestions other than buying a new scanner?  It's no longer under warranty.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi There

It sounds like the scanner needs to be powercycled..shut down the pc completely and unplug the power cord from the scanner  for about 1 minute ...move the shiiping lock on the bottom of the scanner also 3-4 times making sure that the lock is in the unlocked position.
Boot up the pc and try the scanner...it should work..if it doesnt work the first time try it a second ...if it still doesnt work ..then the scanner needs to be replaced
