Question : Problem: Laptop died, want to put XP image onto my Desktop
|
|
Hi experts,
My laptop (emachines m5312) has died. What I want to do now is use the " HDD " in my desktop. I actually want to copy the HDD from the 2.5" 60GB Hitachi to a 3.5" 200GB Maxtor. The complication is that it is windows XP. I don't have a dedicated XP disk, just the emachines recovery disks that I don't think would recognise the hardware of my desktop. Like the laptop my desktop has an AMD CPU (2400+ mobile vs 2000+) and the same amount of RAM.
All the software I want to use and my files are installed on the laptop HDD which is why I want to copy the HDD over. I don't want to risk messing up the laptop HDD so won't boot from that directly. With previous versions of Windows I have been able to use Maxblast to copy my HDD onto a larger drive at the same time as changing most of my hardware (did this with the win98 currently on the desktop going from a Celeron 400 + 128MB RAM to the current AMD 2000+ and 512MB RAM and new video, mobo, CDRW etc).
Thanks!
