Question : Problem: setting up raid 1 with 2 drives being mirrored
|
|
I want to set up 4 hard drives. I want to be able to write to two of the hard drives and have the other two hard drives back up the two drives using raid 1 configuration. I am looking at getting a SOYO motherboard that has a built in raid controller and use windows 2003. Is there a way to get all of this to work without buying anything else?
The second part of this question is do you know any good sites that have walkthroughs for setting up a RAID configuration?
Thanks for your help.

Hi fou99004,
Exactly what motherboard do you have? You're looking for RAID 0+1, so you'll have to check if the on-board RAID controller supports this: http://www.raid.com/04_01_0_1.html The setup is rather straight forward with most controllers, most have a setup program (check for something like "press XX to enter RAID setup" while booting) in which you get a couple of questions to setup the array the way you want it to be.
Btw, if you only need a good read-performance and write isn't that important. You might like to set it up as a RAID-5 array so you have the most amount of space, including a fail-safe solution. http://www.raid.com/04_01_05.html
Greetings,
LucF
