Question : Problem: RDP / Terminal Service/ Remote desktop stops working after installing service pack 3 for XP

I have been fighting this issue for a while. It has been such a burden and a challenge to overcome that i thought i would post the question and answer so that someone else might not have as hard of a time or waste as much time trying to find a solution.

It is somehow related to nvidia video cards
The root of the problem is that the session image space is too small and it can't load any more drivers into it. The session image space is shared for the display driver drivers and printer drivers. rdpdd = remote desktop protocol display driver.

You can fix this bug by increasing the size of the session image space via a registry key. Add the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

"SessionImageSize"=dword:00000020

0x20 == 32 MB works on my system anyway."

Hope this helps someone

Answer : Problem: RDP / Terminal Service/ Remote desktop stops working after installing service pack 3 for XP

Just to add something:

This is a well known problem with nVidia (and ATI) drivers that you download from the nVidia site. The problem is usually corrected by installing the driver you download from your PC manufactor.

You can increase the SessionImageSize but it is not sure 32 MB is enough for all systems like it was for you since the SessionImageSize is shared between display drivers and printer drivers. If you have many print drivers they will take extra space.

Btw. it's you that should close the question. Accept you own answer as a solution :)
