Question : Problem: Dell Poweredge 2600 won't POST with second cpu

I have a Dell Poweredge 2600 with one 2.6GHz Zeon CPU. I'm trying to add a second CPU. However, after adding the CPU & VRM, the box won't start POST. The new CPU is the same stepping as the existing. I know that the new CPU is good, as I removed the existing and installed the new one and POST started. I've also tried swapping the VRMs, both work. Basically, any combination of CPU & VRM work as long as only one CPU is in place. I tried resetting the BIOS and it is the latest version from Dell's website.

Any clues? Much appreciated.

Answer : Problem: Dell Poweredge 2600 won't POST with second cpu

The new CPU must be the exact same speed as the first, also the VRM's MUST match (The system does not support mismatched VRMs) also If you received two VRMs with the upgrade kit, replace the primary VRM already installed in the system with one of the VRMs from the upgrade kit.
