Question : Problem: Laptop Powers on for a second then goes off

I have been looking at a laptop for a friend.  When you turn it on, the power comes on for a second, the cpu fan spins, then it goes off again.

I have tried booting it with the memory out and the HDD to see if i can get it to POST, but nothing.  I have also tried re-seating the CPU, again to no avail.

The battery charges fine with the power in and it also tries to power up with the mains in but the battery out.

What else can i try, or am i just looking at a nailed motherboard?

I've actually have had this problem before. Yes it is a burned motherboard you are looking at. The only thing you can do as far as fixing it is, if it is under 1yr warranty send it back and have the manufacturer to replace the laptop for you. If not just strip down the laptop for spare parts (memory, hard drive, etc.)
