Question : Problem: DVDrw Drive in HP Pavilion dv6000 doesn't work

DVDrw drive in a HP Pavilion dv6000 doesn't work. Put CD, DVD, whatever in the drive and nothing happens. Go to computer and click on the drive and it kicks the door out and asks me "Please insert a disk into Drive E:". If i close the door again and click on it again it thinks about it for a long period of time and then says the drive is empty. Have tired cd's, dvd's, blank media nothing changes. Have replaced the drive with a new one and still same thing is happening. Did a Bios update already, unistalled and reinstalled in the device manager. HP says all i can do is reinstall. Any other ideas.

Try safe mode, if you haven't got a bootable CD.
Check what CD-related programs are installed. Some burner programs have autoloading components that tend to crash the functionality of the optical unit (not physically). Kill all unneeded processes (www.answersthatwork.com has a "task list" with lots of good info on processes yo may find in the task manager) see if that helps.
