Question : Problem: Sound icon missing but Media player has volume.

I am running XP, the sound icon has dissappeared from the system tray and I have no volume from any programs except Windows Media Player.  I have rolled back Media player to it's previous state, it still works fine but nothing else has volume.  I have reinstalled driver, etc.  I have even tried a "fix sound" regedit.  Thanks in advance.
