Question : Problem: Spooler Service crashing constantly, WinXP
|
|
I have a user whos spooler service is crashing anytime you try to do anything in the printer and faxes folder. This includes trying to go to File >Server properties, trying to remove a printer, trying to right click a printer to go into the properties or trying to install a printer. If I just restart the service and dont touch anything then it will crash on its own within 2 minutes.
System is XP sp2 with all updates
So far I have tryed:
-Windows Updates -Checked the dependencies (RPC and that is not crashing) -Checked the Event Viewer (ID 7031 and 7034 under system, and App faults under application log.
There seems to be numerous questions like this on here and I have went to the following site http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm but i cannot uninstall the printer drivers due to the spooler service crashing everytime I right click a printer or go into the server properties.

Also, download the following and try and use cleanspl.exe to make sure the spooler is indeed clean....
Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9D467A69-57FF-4AE7-96EE-B18C4790CFFD&displaylang=en
Not sure how you are trying to remove the drivers, but if it is via Server Properties>Drivers, disregard the next sentences....
Totally remove ALL driver, once you deleted ALL the printers. Then go to Printers and faxes>File>Server Properties>Drivers, and delete whats there. Then reinstall from scratch with fresh drivers.....
Once the printer is deleted, go to start<>run>cmd
net stop spooler net start spooler
That should free up the drivers to delete them.....
