Question : Problem: Best Backup Solution
|
|
I have a client that currently backs up up about 200 GB of data on a nightly basis. They've been using an LTO 1 backup drive until now but it just broke... I need to find a suitable alternative that will allow me to to backup close to 1 TB of data a couple of years down the line. Everything is on the table, LTO3 drive, autoloader, disk based backup etc. The only catch is that I need to have be able to store data offsite in case of disaster. Until now we've stored 1 tape w/ 200GB of data offsite per month. What can you recommend?
FYI - they're using Veritas Backup Exec 9. They also have servers colocated at a data center, it would be possible to install a second backup server there (disk based backup) for offsite storage if necessary. thanks

Answer : Problem: Best Backup Solution

hi there,
im currently looking at the same kind of solution. we have a ultrium1 autoloader that takes 20 tapes, so 1tb should be fine to tape. We also use Backup exec 9.1. Im looking at replacing this with 10d, using the CPS option to backup everything to disk including data across the wan. This way i should get full backups to disk in my backup time window. I wil then be backing this up to tape during the day so no users are affected. we will then look at taking the tapes off site. The other option to consider may be a "Disaster Recovery site" with Exchange/SQL etc etc data replicated to an off site server or servers.
