Question : Problem: No sound? from a SoundMAX Digital Audio

I have a Gateway P4 3.2 Ghz with WinXP Proo (& out of warrenty!) which produces no system sounds or sound when playing MPG files etc. The first time I noticed this was after I installed an ATI All-in-Wonder card and found it was not delivering any sound. I have since removed the card and then I realized that the onboard SoundMAX Digital Audio sound was not working either.

I have gone through the sound trouble wizard and the DxDiag process and found nothing. None of the Mute boxes are checked on (except Mic) and Audio is enabled in the BIOS. I have also tried removing the sound in Device Manager and letting Windows reload it

Any suggestions???......
