Question : Problem: My printer can't print except press "SHIFT" + "CONTINUE" key together, the error message displayed on the front panel is "PC LOAD A4", "PC" character is flashing.

I have an old HP LaserJet 4 Plus printer which was retired from my former company. After i took it home and hooked it in my network using IP printing mechanism. It began to malfunction. When i try to print a file, the front panel shows : "PC LOAD A4" with "PC" word flashing. The "On Line" light is not on, "form feed" orange light is long on. All the other lights are not on.

When i press "shift" + "continue" buttons together, the printer begins to print the file with "On Line" light flashing, after one file is finished, it return to the former state, the "On line" light is dard again.

I checked the network address and connectivity, no obvious mistake. I assigned a static IP address to this printer, and the printer is directly connected with my home Router. There is a Jetdirect printer server card installed on the printer. I don't dare to open the machine to check the phisical condition. However, i indeed printed out some of the operation manual for maintenance and operation instructions on front panel.

Please kind instruct how to troubleshoot this problem and what procedure i should take, any comments and suggestion will be great appreciated.

You probably need to setup the tray on the printer  The PC tray is set for A4 it needs to be changed to letter or legal whichever you have loaded

Verifying front panel media settings for the LC or the PC tray
Press the ONLINE button to take the printer offline.
Press the MENU key until Printing Menu is displayed.
Press the ITEM key until Paper = XXX* is displayed.
If the paper size is not at the correct setting, click the plus (+ ) key until the correct paper size is displayed.
Press the ENTER key to place an asterisk next to the Paper setting . This saves the setting in the printer memory.
Press ONLINE to return the printer to ready.
