Question : Problem: Computer does not recognize 160 gb Harddisk

Hi all,

I am setting up a computer with the following hardware:

msi k8 neo2
amd 3000+ (socket939)
512 mb ram
160 gb hitachti harddisk

i don't understand why this configuration does not recognize full 160 gb it only recognizes 130 gb of it..

please advice,
the faster the better..

Answer : Problem: Computer does not recognize 160 gb Harddisk

Two possibilities:  1) you might need a BIOS update for the controller to see the full size of the HDD - OR - 2) your jumper is set to a 130GB clip... First check the jumpers to insure that it is set up as Master - LBA.  If that doesn't help, download a BIOS update without changing anything else and try that.  The Hitachi (formerly IBM) had a jumper setting specifically for the limitation (clip).  Since then, most BIOS will recognize the larger drives.  You could always download the DiskManager from Hitachi, but I prefer the first two options mentioned.  The DiskManager I only use as a last resort!
