Question : Problem: Which is better for upgrades?

I'm looking at getting a new P.C. There's two I'm looking at from a UK Mail order catalogue:

1) can be viewed here:   http://www.littlewoods-online.com/rf/navigation/product.do?linkId=465540  Celeron D 346 @ 3,06 GHZ,

2) Here:

I don't know much about mainboards, except that bulging capacitors on my current mainboard mean that a new PC is probably in order soon, and with weekly payment terms it means I can afford to buy one wheras I don't have the readies to buy a mobo bundle. Plus I'm on 98 se at the moment and the cost of XP is high too. I have in my mainboard a 128 mb Radeon 9250 card which I'd like to migrate into the new pc, plus a couple of hard drives, and a firewire. I'm not bothered much about a monitor as I have a nice mitsubishi.

What's the likelehood of these having an AGP slot on the board? Or a PCI express slot at a push. And secondly, which will offer the best upgrade to a P4 later on, as I assume the 775 processor will be in a 775 motherboard, and the D 346 will be in a 348 or 349 motherboard.

Lastly, will they be any good for simple Mini DV editing. I run an athlon 1100 at present. That's slow, so will the celerons be much faster? I Heard someone say the equivalent P4 will do the job in a quarter of the time of the celeron, and the celerons won't be much faster than the Athlon. Surely the latter of the two statement isn't true?

Answer : Problem: Which is better for upgrades?

The Celeron D346 is among the better cpus and does not do too badly compared to the P4 or Athlon64 3000+ for certain tasks: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=16219&PageId=0
