Question : Problem: USB Port - Power Spike/Surge
A friend has a Compaq desktop which keeps giving a warning message saying that one particular usb port has had a power spike/surge (I haven't seen this myself yet so can't be more specific). He has taped off the usb port and would like to at least stop the messages but preferable get to the bottom of the problem..
Any idea's where to start looking for a solution?

Answer : Problem: USB Port - Power Spike/Surge
It is likely a damaged USB controller
Disable it in the BIOS, and get a PCMCIA or expresscard controller
