S-Video is one (usb to svideo cables available on ebay) And VGA is another
Which has better resolution. Is there another way?

You should aim for the highest resolution that can be handled by both your laptop and your TV. In descending order from best to worst quality, I would rate the transport mechanisms as follows:
HDMI/DVI VGA/RGBHV Component S-Video Composite RF
Digital is the best, and for the analog methods, the more separate signals you have, the better it is. Note also that Component can handle high-def resolutions, S-Video can only handle up to 400 lines, and Composite and RF can only handle 240 lines.
