Question : Problem: Question on wireless WEP vs WPA encryption

Hello I have an IBM T40 with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3B Mini PCI adapter and a Linksys WRT54G Router. These two devices worked when I used WEP encryption.  When I switched to WPA encryption they stopped communicating. I have isolated it to this one PC since I can connect my other computers wirelessly ysing WPA encryption. I did all the obvious things like changed the key's updated the drivers etc. My question is, Is the  data encrypted, in 1) the wireless card hardware, 2) the wireless card drivers, or software running on the PC  ?  I would like to try and get this working again and would prefer not to have to use WEP encryption any suggestions, I'm not even sure where to look..

Please advise

Answer : Problem: Question on wireless WEP vs WPA encryption

Which OS and service pack level do you have on the PC?
And which driver if the WLAN card?

The operating system must be Windows XP SP2 or XP SP1 with patch 826942.
Microsoft Windows 2000 with SP4 is also possible with a WPA-compliant driver (see my next remark) and configuration tool of the vendor. The tool is here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-52527.html

Minimum version of the WLAN card for the T40 is 1.2.0.56. You can download the latest one here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-59438
And also have a look at this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-56737.html
