Question : Problem: EMC CX400, need to add additional space to existing storage/RAID group/LUN
|

We have a CX-400 with one RAID group/LUN that we need to expand by adding more disks.
We physically installed the disks then went under the RAID group in Navisphere 6 and used the expand button to add 1 of the new disks. This took about half a day to "transition" and now the new disk is listed but the size has not changed (RAID 5 BTW). There is now more free space in the graphic shown under the partition tab of the RAID group, the free space went up under the general tab of the RAID group and under the general tab of the LUN the RAW capacity went up...but we do not know how to complete this to actually make the free space usable by the attached OS (Server 2000) Disk management still shows the disk as being the old size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Urk!
What are you doing on Release 11????? This must be a Dell|EMC box? Current CX release is 19. And it fixes *a lot* of bugs - some of which affect data integrity. I'd strongly recommend that if you intend to keep this system that you upgrade as a matter of urgency no matter what the cost
When you expanded the RAID group, did you see an "Expand LUN with RAID group" check box? If you had only one LUN on the RAID group, you could have expanded the LUN at teh same time. If you did not select the check box or if you have more than one LUN on the RAID group then you'll need to use MetaLUN expansion. If you do not have an Expand Storage option whenm you right-click on a LUN then your CX400 does not support metaLUN expansion and you need a FLARE upgrade.
If the LUN has been expanded with the RAID group (which from your description, it hasn't), then you only need follow the Windows procedure outlined above to complete the expansion.
