Question : Problem: Power MAC G3 Power Supply
|
|
Hi, I'm a PC guy normall and have no exposure to MAC's but have a friend who has a Power MAC G3 with a duff PSU. Can anyone tell me whether the PSU's used in MACS have the same MOBO connection as PC's and therefor I could send him a spare 250w PC PSU I have? The machine and me are 250 miles away and he hasn't a clue what he's looking at so I thought I'd ask you kind people for some help.
Cheers.

No offense to Clausbroch, but the orignal beige G3 models can use a standard ATX powersupply, they are the only models that actually can use an unmodified ATX powersupply. All other models including the blue/white models either have to use modified ATX powersupplies or use the native powersuppies for that system.
If you want info on using an ATX powersupply with a beige, here is a link: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/MacinPC_ATX_case/BeigeG3inATXcase.html
I actually did that with my beige g3 and it works swell.
Here is info on using the blue/white with an atx powersupply, which woudl work but you need to alter the cables on the powersupply slightly: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/MacinPC_ATX_case/Blue_G3_to_ATX.html
The bottom of those pages also have more info as well.
