Question : Problem: Memory 2 gig or 4 gig
|
|
Just got a new computer:
2.2 ghz duo 2 6800M GT running Vista Ultimate but will be switching to XP pro
Two questions:
1) Even though I technically can't use 4gb of memory will I see a difference between 2gig and 4gig? I run photoshop, Illustrator and many other programs all at the same time.
2) I currently have DDR2 PC2-5300 667mhz but I see that I can get DDR2 PC2-6400 800mhz. Will I see a difference between these two or will they be the same?
Follow up question: If both 4gig and 800mhz are better then if you had to choose between either what would it be?
Thanks!!!!

Having both RAM sticks the same size will enable the Dual Channel to kick in. That will give a noticeable performance boost. The improvement Dual Channel will give 1+1 over 1+2 will bring those 2 configurations very close to the same noticeable speed from what I've noticed, but it's better to run benchmarks yourself if possible. Also running 2 + 2 will only enable 3 to be seen bu the OS, but it will be 3Gigs under Dual Channel, so there will be a great advantage over 1 + 2.
Good luck,
Anthony
