Question : Problem: Scanning as pdf

I have a HP C7710A scanner with a ADF.  I like this scanner and wanted to get an all-in-one for the other pc's to use but I am not understanding why I cant scan using pdf.  On the HP scanner I hit 'file' then a box comes up and 'save as type' is already selected to 'pdf.'  so I scan in my documents and it is saved as a pdf document.  Works great that easy.  Now I have bought 3 other all-in-ones and I can not get them to do that.  WHY??? is it HP's scanning software or what other products offer that capability?  PLEASE HELP!  it shouldnt be this difficult!

Sorry to be asking this but...Do you have the Adobe Acrobat installed, I mean no t the Reader ?

I have an HP Scanjet 5470C and I can scan into PDF lika a charm !

Just using Windows XP with SP1, and HP Precision Scan Pro 3.1.
