Question : Problem: Visioneer PaperPort upgrade
|
|
I upgraded my kids computer from Win98 to Win2000 many weeks ago and now I notice that our Visioneer PaperPort 6100b scanner software won't run. (I get a version error warning.)
I upgraded the driver for the scanner no problem but the "Visioneer PaperPort" CD I have is version 5.3.
QUESTION: Is there a cheap method I can continue to use this scanner? Or will I have to buy a new Visioneer PaperPort software version 7.0 or higher?
It seems to me that scanners in the box are so cheap, I really don't know if I want to mess around with trying to purchace a PaperPort upgrade. But I hate to throw away a perfectly good scanner just because the software is old.
Any suggestions?

The "cheap software" takes many hours to develop by Visioneer's programming department, which is probably more interested (by Marketing management) to get the "latest greatest" version out the door for their new scanners.
One item of interest...they are offering a promotion to upgrade your scanner and get 25% savings on the purchase of a new scanner from their online store: http://www.visioneer.com/offer/
PaperPort Deluxe 8.0 costs more than some of their scanners! You might be best to try selling the scanner to someone else running Win98/ME and use the proceeds to buy a new scanner from www.buy.com or your favorite Office supplies store, where they're certainly cheaper than buying direct from Visioneer.
