Question : Problem: Veritas Backup Exec and Exchange 2000 Server
|
|
We are looking to purchase Veritas Backup Backup Exec with Client Access Licences (CAS) for our Exchange 2000 Enterprise Servers solution.
Questions I have in mind are:
1. How does the CAS work with Exchange Enterprise Server and clients 2. Will Veritas Enterprise Backup to a SAN as well as to a NAS? Virtual disks that is? 3. How about System State does it support this as well? 4. Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) - does it support this as well? 5. We are not looking at Brick-Level backups. 6. What will be the approx. cost of Server and CAS?
Please note we are based in the United Kingdom. This is a quick research before I engage Symantec, thanks.
Exchange 2000 Enterprise Servers are running on Windows 2000 Server. We have 2 mailbox servers to backup with 20 stores each.

Answer : Problem: Veritas Backup Exec and Exchange 2000 Server
|
|
1. you install the software onto a backup server and then you purchase a exchange remote agent that you push to the exchange machine you want to backup.
2. backup exec does ork in a san enviroment not sure if you need an agent and not sure if it works on server 2000 but its called "SAN Shared Storage Option"
3. yes
4. yes but i have found problems using this and wanting to restore to a RSG it dont like it so i backup without VSS
6. think the server software is aroung £450 and you get a remote agent with that but you will need the exchange agent which again is about £450 i think
