Question : Problem: Outlook and VPN

We have our main office and another office in a different state. We have a VPN connects both the offices using Sonicwall. So the people work from the other location lost the email connection(outlook 2003), everything works fine, they can access the system and database but not the email. What could be the problem?

Answer : Problem: Outlook and VPN

It sounds like a DNS issue to me.  In other words, a user on the remote site does not know how to map ExchangeServerName to the proper IP address.  How is your DNS setup for the remote site?

A quick and easy test would be....
- Take a computer on the remote site
- Modify their HOSTS file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc)
- Add a line that says '192.168.1.5                 ExchangeServerName' -- use the real values, of course
- Save the HOSTS file
- Attempt to PING ExchangeServerName

If successful, then have that user try connecting via Outlook once again.

By the way, this is a singular fix and NOT an overall resolution.  If this works, we'd need to investigate your DNS server setup.
