My desktop has a PCI-Express x8 RAID card to run the RAID 5 array on my 3 (now 4) 750GB Hard Drives. After obtaining the 4th drive, I installed it and went to the RAID Management software upon boot-up to initiate the migration.
Now when I hear migration, I assume no data loss. That's the whole point of it being a MIGRATION and not a "delete the old, make a new".
So, I selected the 4th drive to add, told it to do RAID 5 (same RAID level as before) and started the 15 hour RAID reconstruction process. This ended and now there is no virtual drive visible to Windows, but it shows up as healthy in the card's BIOS software, as well as the Windows-based management software.
What I have gathered so far is the array is not initialized yet. However, telling it to initialize will lose my data according to the software. How do I get back my data on the two partitions set up on the drives?
