Question : Problem: ActiveSync and a Verizon Treo - the contacts don't sync synch

A client has a Win XP home PC that they installed the activesync app that came with their Treo.  he wasn't sure if things installed completely / correctly.  He thinks the Office 2003 suite that's on the machine was preinstalledd on this HP machine (his reason for no CDs for Outlook).

When I got there, it would sync but give an error about ....smbcmsync.dll not a valid add in.  You click OK and it synced OK, except contacts wasn't on the list to sync.  Only interested in contacts and calendar.

Followed:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=235009

and deleted the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\SBCM.ADDIN.1 key

That got rid of the error message but contacts still not in the list for synching.  If we disconnect the treo, delete the connection in activesync and resync, you go through the initial connection wizard and say that you want to sync contacts.  It goes through the motions, but quickly puts a line on contacts that it synced... close the app and reopen and contacts aren't on the list to sync and it didn't sync the first time.

We reinstalled active sync from MSFT download site, we created a new PST / profile in outlook 2003 and still doens't sync contacts the first time and after the first time, contacts isn't on the sync list in active sync.  any suggestions?

Answer : Problem: ActiveSync and a Verizon Treo - the contacts don't sync synch

a) what SP are you running (SP2 is required)
b) active sync 4.1 should be installed (you might have 4.0)
