Question : Problem: Canon LiDE 500f  fails installation - the required section was not found in the INF

I have a Canon LiDE 500f scanner and downloaded the latest driver. Canon offers their normal driver and a WIA driver. I have tried both.

I install the software first and hook up the USB cable later, per canon's instructions.

The XP hardware wizard correctly detects and recognizes the model of the scanner but generates an error that says can't install this hardware. The required section was not found in the INF.

The device manager does not show that there is a driver to uninstall or show the scanner at all. I only get the message conveyed to me through the task bar. I have all the latest service packs from Windows Update applied.

Any ideas of what to try next?
