Question : Problem: Cisco 2505

I just bought a Cisco 2505 and it will not recognize any keyboard input. I am using XP's hyperterminal, 9600 8 2&1. Any ideas. This is my second router with the same issue, so I've ruled out that the problem may be with the router. Thanks in advance.

In addition to scraig84's most excellent suggestions:
Are you sure your 9-pin->RJ45 adapter is pinned correctly?
