Question : Problem: Enhance wireless signal

Experts, I have a dilemma. Our CEO has a huge house in Malibu, CA. The house looks like a rectangle. The Wireless Router is on one side of the house, and a workstation connected via Network Cable 6 ft away.

The laptop however only works at the midpoint of the house. That's as far as the signal goes at the center of the house. Everything beyond the center, does not catch the signal.

I offered to setup a Linksys Wireless Adapter w/ signal booster, but I do not know how well that will work.

Any other ideas of how to make the whole house have a good signal.

Note: Router must stay in its current location. Cannot be moved to center of house. What other options are on the table?

Answer : Problem: Enhance wireless signal

If there isn't Cat5 in the walls already, check out the Linksys PLE200. The PLK200 kit contains 2 of them.

They all need to be on the same pole of a 2-pole 120/240 system (as commonly used in the USA), or on the same phase of a 208/110 3-phase system (fairly rare, but depends how big the house is, or if it's got a wind genny and/or PV array too).

That's not too difficult to figure out, usually. Plug one into an unused receptacle, run cat5 from the router to the PLE200, then plug in another PLE200 near where you want another access point and run a short cable to feed the AP. Add 2 on the main floor and 1 upstairs (or out by the pool) and it should have good coverage everywhere.
You don't need to be super-creative to keep everything out of sight.
