Question : Problem: Moving files from RDP to local machine, and back again.

We have a group of Execs that are both in and out of the office and are laptop/pda users. In the past I have tried multiple variations of locally authenticating the laptops, using RDP, VPN, VPN dongles, but recently my laptops were ordered with Vista HOME (yeah - thats how I felt too...). The only way now is to put all on RDP. I also provide a wireless aircard to each laptop so they can connect anywhere. My biggest issue is when the user (CEO, CFO, COO, etc) decides they want to work on files while traveling such as during a flight. In a simple RDP, one cannot transfer files easily from the session to the local machine. I have instructed the users to "email" the doc to themselves, minimize the rdp session, then connect to OWA off the local machine to retrieve the docs. When done, they need to "email" themselves again and retrieve the email once they are back in the rdp. This seems very "kludgey". To continue this thread, how do others transfer files between rdp and local? Is there a better solution?

Answer : Problem: Moving files from RDP to local machine, and back again.

You can share your local drive[s] with remote computer. Open Remote Desktop Connection application, go to Options - Local Resources - Local devices and resources - More and you specify what local drive you want to share. After connection, remote computer will have access to your local drive[s].

Otherwise, you can use something like www.pipebytes.com - work fine for me.
