Question : Problem: Adaptec 2420 PCI-X - can it fir on PCI?
|
|
Hi
I'd like to know if the Adaptec 2420 PCI-X SATAII RAID controller can be made to fit on a "normal" pci slot?
I phoned the distributors and was assured by all that PCI-X cards are "backwards compatible" with PCI slots, but when I got the card, the "pci" bit of the cards' connectors are "inverted" to the pci slot.
I did notice that *if* I removed the metal plate on the card, I *could* make it fit into the pci slot, with the "extra" conectors hanging off the front of the slot, instead of the back.
Is this correct, ie, can I make the card "fit" this way, or will it damage the card/motherboard?
If not, will the Adaptec2410 fit into a normal pci slot? ( the specs say it is a pci-64bit card and I assume it WILL fit, but with the extra connectors hangin off the back - and the card will then run in 32bit)
Thx for any help.

Hi I have now found that it is definately NOT possible to fit a PCI-X card into a PCI slot, you can however fit a PCI card into a PCI-X slot...
